Event Design Trends for 2016

Every year, designs change. The year of 2016 is all about personality and personalization. Your event, whether it is a wedding or a corporate event, should show you off!

Here are a couple of trends we are seeing in 2016:

Unique Venues

The first trend is unique venues. More and more often we are seeing less events hosted in hotel ballrooms and conference spaces. Instead people are opting for other spaces like theatres, art galleries or outdoor parks. Each one of these can speak to your guests about who you are or what your company is about. From rooftop gardens, to concert halls, we are loving this trend! (Check back next week for some of my favorite Unique Venues in Calgary!)

Event Lighting

Lighting can make a big difference in a room. Uplighting has been used for years, but in 2016 we will see more specialty lighting, which could be monograms, globe lights, or chandeliers. These all can dramatically change a venue into an elegant, relaxed or fun environment.

Straying from the Traditional

This point is mainly for weddings. Couples are foregoing wedding cakes for their favorite desserts and even changing formal meals to their favorite dish (pizza, breakfast, food trucks, etc). Gone are the days where the head table is at the front of the room and speeches are made.  This day is becoming more about the couple and less about the “rules”.

Metallic Accents

Metallics are a big trend this year. I saw it over and over again at the bridal expo. Anything from metallic candle votive, vases, chairs, and/or metallic linens (think sequins and beading), are popular. And mixing metallic colours together is even more chic!
